Our gem of the week is @kenmatsumura_ , who started minting art on Tezos in August of this year. This artist has not revealed much about themselves, but the art they are releasing consistently tells a story waiting for us to uncover. He may have only been minting for a few months, but there is a seasoned artist at work here. I am impressed with the consistency and already recognizable style unique to Ken's art. Let’s take a look at some examples and enjoy the art together. With the newest release being "Art Gallery" 10/10 available only on secondary.
In Ken’s genesis mint, “Resting With Time”, we are introduced to a still pixel composition depicting a young person taking a nap in the woods. They are leaning against a giant skull which adds a whimsical layer of mystery to the scene. The layers, textures and color choices all work together to create an aesthetic that instantly pulls viewers in. The static image is balanced with the leaves of the trees changing colors and falling to the ground offering the suggestion of changing seasons and forward motions even when we sleep or pass on.
In “A Photo In The Wallet” we see a first person point of view, with someone looking at the photo in their wallet (likely Ken). As he reflects on this image of a girl, I find myself reflecting with him. The photo labeled September 2017 hints to a time when many of us were first noticing bitcoin, and I believe Ken is likely telling us a bit about his web3 origin story here. The girl likely played a role in his journey, perhaps the muse that sparks the art. Constantly working, chain smoking and coffee to keep up with the grind. Thinking back at the best moments to stay motivated. Only a dollar in cash but bags secured and pursuing a better future. Make sure to follow @kenmatsumura_ , and be ready for the next drop.
